Spring/Summer 2010

Military

Liz: Who ever would think that the military trend would ever come off of an army base!? Military pants can be so unflattering, as the extra pockets and details around the leg can add bulk. But they can also be super cute when paired with a tank top, a long and lean cardigan, flats or heels. I love olive tones paired with gold accessories. I wear the J Brand version with high gold stilettos and always feel sexy and chic.

Jane: The celebs wear the $231 J Brand version, but what’s great about this trend is that it exists at every price point, from Old Navy to Gap and J. Crew. If your legs are a little heavier, opt for a pair with less detailing, so you aren’t drawing more attention to yourself. If you love your legs, do the skirt version.

Feminine and Flirty

Liz: Everything is coming up roses and ruffles this Spring and I love it. This is a trend that is easy to wear and so sexy, in a soft feminine way. To add some edge to the look you can add a rock and roll type shoe, which Jessica Biel did.

Jane: We were psyched to see the amazing Liberty of London for Target items back in stock, as they are so expensive looking (without actually being expensive at all). Designers from Rebecca Taylor to Valentino are all showing floral prints and feminine silhouettes. Try pairing a flowered dress with cowboy boots for a true young- Hollywood look. Tiered ruffled skirts done in mini or maxi lengths are everywhere from Forever 21 to Ralph Lauren.

White

Liz: White is a huge trend this Spring/Summer and what we love about it is that white is beautiful on everyone. It literally lights up and illuminates your face and skin, even if you have paler skin like Anne Hathaway and Nicole Kidman. Actually, Nicole Kidman has recently been spotted wearing a white embellished sheath dress on the set of her new movie with Jen Aniston and Adam Sandler and she looks radiant!

Jane: White can be both crisp and classic or soft and romantic depending on how you wear it. Pair your favorite boyfriend jean with a white button down shirt like the low-maintenance non-iron version from Brooks Brothers for a sexy prepster look. The same pair of jeans can be transformed into a soft and flirty look when topped with a ruffled cami from J. Crew or something similar.

Tribal

Liz: Tribal is an easy way to mix this season’s must have neutrals with bright fun colors. You can easily take a simple outfit tribal by just adding a few wood/natural bangles or a beaded/straw bag. Think classic shift dress, straight or a-line skirts done in black, white and brown graphic prints mixed with bright or earth-tone versions of colors such as reds, oranges, yellows and neutrals. Topped off with natural details such as wood, shell, bone/ivory, beading and straw. Splurge on one great item such as a skirt, which you can pair with a wife-beater tank in a neutral tone.

Jane: I love graphic bold tribal prints when they are incorporated onto a sheath dress or a simple tee. It takes an outfit from ordinary to extraordinary. You also don’t need to wear a ton of accessories with tribal prints because your outfit will speak for itself!
